Programming Ourselves
You may have read the quote “I would like to change the world but they won’t give me the source code” It’s funny when I read it but I thought about it more in depth. Is the source code of the world filled with bugs? Is the actual system what is at fault? What is the glitch? It is my personal belief that a virus has been introduced into the system. The virus has corrupted the scripts of our lives. The virus has corrupted the script of the world. I won’t name the virus because I think it is evident; however it is great at morphing itself. The creator of this Oday is an expert at virus writing. The question is can we alone hack the virus and correct ourselves. I think that is dependent upon if we have the source code or if we know the Creator of the original program.

fear of reality
So, I am really amazed at with all our social media, virtual worlds and generally great ways to keep in touch with each other, people do not still communicate. I mean sure a little text here saying hi how are you. But no serious communication. I have e-mail numerous people over the last couple of weeks and am amazed at how people do not respond. Granted they may not want to talk to me...I will entertain that thought. In all honesty I just think it is people are afraid to engage. I think people feel that when you e-mail someone or post to their social media just to say hi there is some alternative motive. So maybe social media has created a bunch of paranoid people who are afraid of relationships, or I think the real thing would be people have always been afraid of relationship and social media has just enhanced their ability to hide in the smoke and mirrors of how they wish to create themselves.
I am not attacking the means of communication I am wanting to bring to light an issue, an issue of fear of humanity an issue of fear of reality.

Book
So I have been researching the challenge of ethics in virtual worlds and then looking at how I should view this in a Christian World view. I spent $45.oo dollars on an ethics book about virtual worlds and was sadly disappointed with the information presented in the book. Not to mention I question the publishers ethics in charging $45.00 for a paperback book and I thought to myself I should write this book. So I have a report that is due in my class and I think I will use it to launch my idea of a new book.

ethics for my avatar
So as I have mentioned in my previous post I am in a class about virtual worlds and social media. I decided to dive a little more into some of the issues facing virtual worlds and social media most specially the ethical issues that face these medias. So I guess I will provide a little background. I am a devout Christian not a religious fanatic but a person who views life with the idea that the concepts presented in the Bible are true. Saying that I started to ask questions like “If you have sex with another person Avatar is that adultery?” And if it is then would having sex with a NPC in a virtual world be adultery. Then would killing another person in a game be murder? You can see where this can open up a whole new world of ethical questions. I am extremely curious person which is good. So I decided to do a little research and am still doing research I will give you some of what I find as I find it and would love to hear people’s feedback.

Identity scripts are just like computer scripts they must work within the environment that they were written for. A script that is written from another script is a mod or a patch the same can be said for our lives. Our past can be modified or patched to debug it. The question is are we writing our patches or are we allowing other people to write our patches.

Surrogate World
This was a post for my class, I felt like sharing it here.
In the movie Surrogate we see this world where people no longer meet in person but with their surrogate robots and they live through them. Do you see our world heading this way? Where we know longer meet to talk in our churches, coffeehouses and local community hang outs but we meet in our virtual worlds of facebook and Second Life. I see this as a scare for me because I read or hear of stories where people disappear in World of War Craft for days on end. I for one definitely get deeply involved in my virtual worlds, however I spend time working the tools of my trade. I am a Creator if you will, I want to contribute to humanity not have technology control . I influence with technology there is a huge difference with influence and control in technology. Information is no longer the power of technology, creation is the new power of technology. How can we use it to create and to influence humanity? This should be the new question.

Creation the new power
Information is power and the few wish to control it. That is what I believe, however with the invent of the internet it is impossible. I think the new power will be creation, what you can make from this new found information. You would think infinite possibilities would exist, I mean anything you need to know is right here. Instead people trade ideas in virtual worlds and create virtual things. What if we started to take this information and create real inventions? I thought 2010 would be the age of hover cars, transporters and we would have at least colonized the moon. Seriously what happen to creation.

Intro
So, what is it about people that they feel their personal information needs to be public information. For instance why do I feel this need to share my own thoughts and insights on a blog. In the hope of some great discovery? To share some deep spiritual connection? Seriously I don't know.
Take for instance, I am sitting at my favorite coffee shop and a woman walks in with her phone on speaker talking to someone about how one of her sons step children was found dead. The voice on the other side of the phone says “Was it suicide?” I am thinking why am I being drawn into this womans world. Is she wanting some type of connection that she is not getting from her home life and thus she feels this need to allow everyone in the coffee house to hear about her personal life? Is she seriously unaware that everyone in here can hear this conversation? Or does she just not really care?
I guess I will tell who ever reads these why I started this blog. I am in a class called Virtual Worlds and Social Media. And as part of my assignment I have started this blog. I am also in a class called interpersonal communication so in theory I am doing this blog for both classes. I might also just share some of my own Insight into my degree which is Information Security and Intelligence or what ever else I feel like blogging about.
